David M. Steiner was appointed by the Board of Regents as President of the University of the State of New York and Commissioner of Education in October 2009. Most recently the Dean of the School of Education at Hunter College CUNY, he previously served as Director of Arts Education at the National Endowment for the Arts and also Chairman of the Department of Education Policy at Boston University. Dr. Steiner has a Ph.D. in political science from Harvard University and a B.A. and M.A. in philosophy, politics and economics from Balliol College at Oxford University.
