SESSION TYPE: Featured Speaker
SESSION TITLE: Euclid's Elements as a Videogame! You're kidding, right?
STRAND: STEM
DAY: Saturday
TIME: 11:15 - 12:15 pm
LOCATION: Sutton Parlor North, 2nd floor
Many educators have suggested that videogames can enhance mathematics learning. Their arguments generally focus on two factors: (a) almost all school-aged children play videogames regularly, so why not get some mathematics learning in there; (b) videogames generate intense levels of engagement, resulting in huge amounts of “time on task,” which could be channeled to mathematics learning. But these reasons miss the point. For everyday, practical mathematics, videogames are the ideal medium. (The worst possible medium? The textbook.)
