This session will start with a discussion of the 2009 report Exploring What Works in Science Instruction by Braun, Coley, Jia and Trapani. This report attempts to identify aspects of U.S. eighth-grade science classrooms that are associated with science achievement. A demonstration of the Internet-based, NAEP Data Explorer will show how to obtain the same results for these and other research questions around teacher effectiveness and educational policies using data from The Nation’s Report Card.
