New York State United Teachers (NYSUT)
New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) represents more than 600,000 people who work in or are retired from New York state’s schools, colleges and health care facilities. NYSUT members share a common commitment to improving the quality of education and health care for the people of New York. Members include classroom teachers, college and university faculty and professional staff, school bus drivers, custodians, secretaries, cafeteria workers, teaching assistants and teacher aides, nurses and health care professionals.
NYSUT is a federation of more than 1,350 local unions, each representing its own members. NYSUT and its local unions are affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers and the National Education Association. NYSUT also plays a leading role in the organized labor movement — the AFL-CIO — and in Education International, which represents nearly 30 million members worldwide.
